Some may see this image as a group of people displaying a message, but others view it as people coming from different races, beliefs, religion, ages, and sexes are together and fighting for equality. They all have different reasons to why they're at the rally. The marches happened all over the globe so that everyone could say what they need to say. My link is a collage of clips showing that, citizens emerging together from different communities to send a message.
*This is where I get political*
In my opinion, we all needed a little feminist power in our lives . This election didn't send a good message to the feminist community. The message was that a male with money could exceed a well-educated women. It could've been because she was a women or other matters. None the less, it still bothers me that America would choose someone with no political background and who laughs at women leadership to run our country versus someone who has studied politics and has been involved with it for years. So I believe this march was a good statement to show after the election.
In the beginning of this paragraph I stated you could look at this image as a group or individuals. The article we read in class, "Disjunctive & Difference in the Global Cultural Economy," goes more in depth about how America can be viewed as "homogeneous", but is clearly the opposite. America is very culturally diverse today. The marches show how many cultures care about equality. Arjun Appadurai spoke about "cannibalism"in the article. Of course he means metaphorically, but he said we as Americans are consuming what's the same/ popular whether is positive or negative. Even though this happens there are still so many different people/ cultures we come into contact with daily.
I agree with your political opinion as well, it's sad that this is what it's come to... but now more than ever I'm glad we as women (and as people in general) are coming together to show how important this really is, and that matters like this shouldn't be taken so lightly.... Have you also ever heard of the Million Women March? reminds me of all the marches happening now.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about the President we have now about not having political background. He says that he was the desirable candidate because he's not Washington. He says he would drain the swamp. But he filled it with the people that make government so corrupt in the first place. Keep in mind, Clinton was shrouded in controversy too. But nonetheless she still had years and years of political experience. This election was a real wake up call and I think we almost sort of needed an event like this to really get people involved in politics more. It is always darkest before the dawn.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting to view the feminist rally as a multiculturalism issue. It never really occurred to me to view the topic as a method of different races and religions. I personally view the election of our new President as a larger threat to our relationship with the international community, what with the travel ban, wall etc. I think that the march was a great method to show solidarity in troubling times and I hope it continues as the next 4 years drags on.
ReplyDeleteThe women's march this year had a great powerful turn out. The election this year brought about a lot of issues concerning women's rights. The march is a way to have all women join together and talk/stand for something that they feel deeply about. It is a safe place to express yourself as a women especially with President Trump running our country now. He used offensive words against women and its safe to say that it sparked anger in each of us. I love and agree with your statement "The message was that a male with money could exceed a well-educated women. It could've been because she was a women or other matters."
