The link chosen is the song #WHEREISTHELOVE sang by The Black Eyed Peas ft. The World. This is not the first song of Where Is The Love, but the second. The first song, released in 2003, has gotten over 220 million views. In late 2016, The Black Eyed Peas made another song about love in the world. While the first song focused more on the issues of race, the second version made it more relatable to race, as well as gender, sexuality, lifestyle, culture, etc. With appearances of 65 celebrities, the Black Eyes Peas also included family members of those involved in shootings and deaths due to the issues in America.
The quote taken from Detectives, Dancers, Dolls, “Functional differentiation had advantages over earlier forms of organizing societies.” relates to my choice of example for Multiculturalism. Without multiculturalism (as I'm referring to functional differentiation), the world would be dull. Without multiculturalism, there would be no innovation. Multiculturalism could even be considered a gateway to new cultures today. Referring to the picture I chose, I find it a good example because the human population makes up the world. The picture shows humans, representing the different countries, continents, and lifestyles around the world. However, you cannot tell what race, gender, religion, or sexuality the people are, because the point the picture is trying to prove is that humans are what makes the world ours. The song as well as the picture, try to emphasis the fact that the goal is to coexist with one another, regardless of their culture, and live in peace. I feel the song I chose speaks volumes, because of the fact there were two songs written 13 years apart, asking where the love is. The articles we discuss in class bring up the fact of cultures not getting along, and the fear of change. The music video relates to the same thing, encouraging people to just love one another, because the fact of the matter is we're all just humans, trying to coexist equally.
